Getting More Kids on Bikes with NICA
Date Posted: December 31st, 1969
I recently had the opportunity to meet with a National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) High School cycling team near my home base of Flagstaff, AZ. NICA develops interscholastic mountain biking programs for student-athletes across the United States. NICA is growing like crazy and we have been invited to give tire repair training and demonstrations for their teams.
I started with the NICA team from the BASIS Charter School in Flagstaff. I presented our inflators to a group of 15 respectful and interested kids. I made sure they were all able to use each inflator and specifically the inflator they had in their bag, if they had one. We deflated a couple of tires and inflated them.
I then punctured my tubeless demo tire and had a couple kids plug it with the Tubeless Tackle Kit. Their coach, Sue Rawley, was very appreciative, thanking us for taking the time to educate the team. After 30 minutes of playing around with the gear, I handed out samples: Inflators, sealant, plug kits, banners and stickers.
One of the kids said, “this guy is awesome! It’s like Christmas." To which I replied, “the company I work for is awesome. I’m just the lucky guy who gets to be cycling Santa.” Genuine Innovations is proud to support NICA and the programs that get more kids on bikes!
